Delaware City, Delaware

Delaware City (once known as Newbold's Landing Harbor) is a city in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. The population was 1,453 at the 2000 census. It is a small port town on the eastern terminus of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and is the location of the ferry to Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island

Delaware City was actually laid/planned out to be a city as big and rivaling Philadelphia as a port on the Delaware River....but it never came to pass! If you visit there today, the laid out grid street patterns still exist.
